About Weltaufgang
A community project for bioregional survival and regeneration
What Does "Weltaufgang" Mean?
Weltaufgang is a German word meaning "world rising" or "world dawning"—the opposite of Weltuntergang(world ending/apocalypse).
We chose this name because we believe the future isn't about collapse or apocalypse. It's about what rises from the transition: regenerative cultures, care economies, and bioregional resilience. The world isn't ending—it's transforming. Our role is to guide that transformation toward abundance rather than scarcity.
Our Vision
"A world where every community has the knowledge, relationships, and practical skills to thrive within their bioregion—where care replaces extraction, and abundance flows from regeneration rather than depletion."
Who We Are
We are a distributed community of practitioners, researchers, designers, and activists working on bioregional regeneration. Our backgrounds span permaculture, systems thinking, commons governance, appropriate technology, and community organizing.
This project emerged from the recognition that survival knowledge shouldn't be gatekept, sold, or hoarded. It should be freely available to everyone, adapted to local contexts, and continuously improved by the communities that use it.
Partner Organizations
The Oslo Project
A collaborative initiative exploring regenerative futures and systemic change. Focused on developing practical frameworks for post-growth societies.
osloproject.orgHeliogenesis
Building solar-powered abundance through material sovereignty, care loops, and regenerative design. The theoretical foundation for much of this manual.
heliogenesis.ioPirates Partners
A network of collaborators who believe knowledge should be free, systems should be open, and the future should be built together. We work in the open, share our tools, and welcome all who want to contribute.
Marrow Network
A decentralized dinner network for regenerative living. Find like-minded people locally, host or join dinners (at home or restaurant), and have deep conversations about biohacking and regenerative communities. Quiz, location, connect.
t.me/MarrownetworkbotThis Book is Open
Weltaufgang is not a product—it's a commons. The content is:
- •Freely available to read, download, and share
- •Open to adaptation for your bioregion and language
- •Continuously improved by our community
- •AI-assisted in drafting, human-edited for quality
We use Kimi K2 as a research and drafting agent, drawing on established sources (Mollison, Holmgren, Ostrom, Wahl, Raworth, and many others) while human editors ensure accuracy and practical value.
How to Contribute
Share Local Knowledge
Know traditional practices from your bioregion? Indigenous water harvesting? Heirloom varieties? We want to include them.
Translate
Help make this manual available in your language. We're especially interested in languages of climate-vulnerable regions.
Test and Report
Try the techniques. Tell us what works, what doesn't, and what's missing for your specific conditions.
Spread the Word
Share with your community, neighbourhood groups, or anyone interested in practical resilience.
Get in Touch
We welcome collaboration, questions, and contributions from anyone working on bioregional regeneration.
